The National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) is looking for a full time Director of Fundraising to join their team in an exciting time of organizational growth and development. The role reports directly to the Chief Strategic Officer (CSO) and is responsible for philanthropic revenue to support the organization’s nonprofit mission to inspire emerging creators and entrepreneurs through our education programs and honor the history of innovation through our museum and Hall of Fame Inductees. The Director of Fundraising will lead a dedicated team of fundraisers to provide the necessary vision, leadership, and fundraising skills which will enable the organization to achieve its fundraising goals. S/he will have substantial fundraising and management experience, a talent for building relationships, and a proven track record in securing support from foundations, corporations, government, and individual donors.

Position Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning

  • Lead the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies and achieve philanthropic revenue targets across diverse revenue streams
  • In cooperation with the CSO, lead the development of long-term strategy to achieve growth
  • Identify new potential funding streams and produce strategies to develop these funds

Financial Planning and Budget Management

  • Produce cost-effective budgets to achieve action plans
  • Develop and maintain income and expenditure tracking and evaluation systems

Fundraising

  • Manage a cohesive fundraising team that achieves fundraising targets
  • Lead on development of diverse new major gift funding streams
  • Oversee the management of grants and the production of high-quality proposals and reports
  • Support the endowment and individual giving development plan including recruitment and development of new donors
  • Maintain effective donor stewardship for the development of relationships and retention

Staff Management:

Management of fundraising staff, including:

  • Developing objectives and work plans
  • Managing workload and performance through regular one-to-one management discussions
  • Plan and implement personal development programs for team members
  • Undertake annual performance reviews

Credentials and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • At least five years’ experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrable track record of strategic fundraising
  • Successful, significant, and relevant achievement at the management level
  • Experience using the strength of an organization brand for business development
  • Proven track record of meeting challenging income targets
  • Proven ability to build, manage, and develop key stakeholder and donor relationships
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic and business plans
  • Effective dissemination of information to large and diverse groups

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Track record of bringing innovative creative thinking and fresh ideas to an organization
  • Knowledge of the fundraising environment and of a range techniques and disciplines which will support the generation of philanthropic revenue
  • Exceptionally convincing and persuasive written and oral skills with the ability to present and convey complex ideas and issues clearly and coherently
  • Demonstrable ability to evaluate new initiatives and develop and deliver new strategic priorities
  • Ability to secure Senior Management and Board approval for strategy
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously, take initiative, and make decisions
  • Commitment to NIHF’s core values and strategic direction
