Ohio ESSA Stakeholder Meetings

Philanthropy Ohio and its members, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Education, hosted a series of regional conversations across the state where attendees shared their thoughts and perspective on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and Ohio’s developing state plan. Each meeting presented a tremendous opportunity to gather valuable input from local educators, funders, parents, students and community members and to collectively discuss ESSA and how it will impact our students, educators and families in Ohio. The meetings included an introduction from state superintendent Paolo DeMaria, a brief overview of ESSA and group discussions around specific provisions and options.

Shaping Ohio's ESSA Plan

This white paper shares what Philanthropy Ohio and its members heard during a “listening tour” of 10 regional meetings held across Ohio from August 31 to October 6, 2016. The meetings engaged nearly 1,500 Ohioans— including  educators, funders, parents, students, community members and policymakers— in conversations about the newly-enacted Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), a federal law that replaces the No Child Left Behind Act. The findings from these conversations are sure to have important implications for Ohio students, families, educators and communities.
