Data Point: Donor Motivations for Initially Establishing Funds at Community Foundations

As part of our Donor Perception Report, we asked 4,991 donors of 41 US-based community foundations from across the nation the following question: “Please think back to your first contribution to or through the Foundation, or your initial establishment of a fund at the Foundation. Choose among the following options the two most important reasons you first decided to establish a fund with the Foundation or make a donation to or through the Foundation.”

Corporate Philanthropy: The Latest Snapshot of Giving Trends

The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) and The Conference Board released their Corporate Giving Standard (CGS) survey this week. Over 200 Fortune 500 companies participated in the survey including 62 Fortune 100 firms. With these companies together donating almost $20 billion total in 2011, the report reveals current trends in corporate giving. To the detractors of corporate philanthropy, or those worried that companies are doing less, this survey shows that reports of corporate giving’s demise are greatly exaggerated.

Donor Perspectives: An Investigation Into What Drives Your Donors to Give

Blackbaud launched the Donor Perspectives survey in order to get a view of the nonprofit sector from the donor perspective and, when relevant, compare findings to the results from Blackbaud’s recently-released 2012 State of the Nonprofit Industry survey, which gauged levels of nonprofit optimism and explored successful management strategies. This report provides a snapshot of donor decision-making by looking at how much donors gave in the past year and how that changed from the previous year, as well as donor motivations, preferences, and behaviors.
