At the August Education Initiative meeting, the State Board of Education President and the Interim State Superintendent shared the state’s priorities and strategies to address academic recovery and promote student success. Hear about the Ohio General Assembly’s education priorities for the lame duck session and Philanthropy Ohio’s priority education areas as we look toward the next biennium.
The September meeting reviewed and reflected on Philanthropy Ohio's policy engagement and partnerships since the Education Initiative began in 2005. Attendees of this working session provided input as we refresh and refocus our education policy agenda for the next biennium. Shaun Yoder, the Ohio Department of Education’s former chief strategy officer & director of external partnerships, discussed the impact of Philanthropy Ohio’s collaborative work and stakeholder engagement. Executive in Residence Claudia Herrold facilitated a strategic conversation to identify vital education policy issues, accomplishments, remaining work and opportunities for impact.
Philanthropy Ohio’s Education Initiative coalition has developed a series of targeted briefing papers aimed at helping the state’s early childhood, K-12 and post-secondary education leaders, elected officials and other key stakeholders plot a clear direction for the future of education and improved student success. It is our hope that these briefing papers will help guide Ohio leaders during upcoming policy discussions, including Ohio’s next budget.
As February / Black History Month comes to a close and March / Women’s History Month dawns, a focus on excellence in leadership is fitting to uplift all that is deserving of philanthropic and social impact investment. Focusing on the struggles of our past has its place – so that we never forget. But highlighting the excellence in our legacies provides a vital and proactive perspective.
