The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) is the leading international professional membership organization for ceramic, glass, and materials scientists, engineers, researchers, manufacturers, sales professionals, educators, and students. ACerS publishes journals, periodicals, and books; organizes meetings and expositions; and offers technical information through web and print outlets. ACerS extensive website (ceramics.org) provides online access to its journals, Ceramic Tech Today newsletter, ACerS Bulletin membership magazine, videos, student and young professional career resources, and specialized technical knowledge. The Society serves over 11,000 members from more than 70 countries. 

The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF) (foundation.ceramics.org) plays the primary role in advancing the educational outreach of the American Ceramic Society. Founded by ACerS in 2014, the CGIF’s mission is to attract, inspire, and support the next generation of ceramic and glass professionals. Since its inception, the CGIF has launched programs in a number of areas including student and teacher outreach, international student exchanges, student travel grants, student leadership development, a university-industry network, and an online Ceramic and Glass Career Center.

Job Description

Position Overview:

The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF), a division of The American Ceramic Society (ACerS), is seeking a motivated and skilled Grants and Communications Associate to enhance our grant-seeking and communications efforts.  This role involves working closely with the Program Manager to identify and secure grant opportunities and develop communications strategies that effectively promote CGIF’s mission and programs. 

Responsibilities:

  • Grant Acquisition and Management: Conduct research to identify potential grant opportunities aligning with CGIF's mission and programs. Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring adherence to requirements and deadlines. Maintain a grant calendar to monitor applications and reporting schedules.
  • Internal Grant Management: Manage the reception and processing of incoming grant applications requesting CGIF’s support for materials science education and outreach. Coordinate with the Board of Trustees for the approval of these grants and oversee the distribution of materials and funds. Track and gather feedback and results from grant beneficiaries and coordinate the organization and processing of student travel grants.
  • Communications: Develop and implement communication strategies to promote CGIF's mission and activities. Produce content monthly for CGIF's website, social media, and other communication channels. Design and distribute marketing and promotional materials, like brochures, newsletters, and reports. Ensure timely updates and maintenance of website content as needed.
  • Support Functions: Assist with the coordination and execution of program activities.  Support CGIF fundraising efforts by conducting research, processing donations, producing gift receipts, compiling mailing lists, assisting in the creation of appeals and completing state charitable registrations.
  • Adaptability and Collaboration: We are a small team and wear a lot of hats. The ideal candidate will embrace a role where the tasks can vary weekly and be welcoming of collaboration with both members of our team and outside contributors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in business, marketing, communications, or a related field, or related professional experience.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in grant writing and communications.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills with the ability to adapt messages for various audiences.
  • Proficient in managing multiple projects in a dynamic, hybrid work environment.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, basic design skills and experience with design tools like Canva.
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts and effectively communicate with highly advanced scientists and engineers in the ceramics field.

Location and Travel:

We emphasize the importance of in-person collaboration and relationship building, adopting a hybrid work model that includes one to two in-office workdays per week at our Westerville, OH office. Additionally, this position requires occasional travel to support our programs and engage with partners.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary is $45,000, based on experience.
