Philanthropy Ohio is a statewide membership association that leads and equips Ohio philanthropy to be effective partners for change in our communities. Members are community and private foundations, corporate contributions programs, individuals, giving circles, government, and federated funds, including United Ways and other grantmaking organizations. Our 170 members collectively hold over $50 billion in assets and provide over $4 billion in grants to nonprofit organizations that work to improve the lives of community residents.

Job Description

Reports to: Vice President of Programs and Learning  

The Network Engagement Director serves as a strategic connector for our members as they strengthen their work. By deeply understanding our members, their focus areas and their learning paths, the Director will amplify their membership value by connecting them with peers, resources and programming to speed their pace of change. The Network Engagement Director will work closely with the President & CEO, the VP of Programs and Learning and the VP of Communications and Membership to align and activate the member network in ways that increase the value and uniqueness of their membership and creates growth and opportunity for Philanthropy Ohio.

Primary Responsibilities

Connecting and convening members on shared topics and practices

  • Understand the goals of members and how they want to advance their impact.
  • Connect members to peers, resources and programming that directly relate to their goals.
  • Convene groups of members with shared interests and facilitate the sessions for maximum effectiveness.
  • Set up a framework to capture the shared learning and progress as a result of these connections and convenings.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Membership to implement the member retention and engagement plans.

 Delivering programs and facilitating convenings

  • Deliver program content, moderate/host sessions and facilitate Philanthropy Ohio programs.
  • Serve as a member of the Programs and Learning team; sharing information about members and helping to develop and execute the program and learning calendar.
  • Actively lend expertise about the philanthropic ecosystem and emerging needs to create relevant and responsive programs and the conference sessions.

Prospect research and cultivating national partnerships

  • Identify national funding opportunities and partnerships that advance Philanthropy Ohio’s network engagement and overall mission and goals.
  • Partner with Director of Grants to apply for funding.
  • In partnership with CEO and other senior leadership, actively pursue partnerships that advance our work. 

Exploring earned revenue opportunities

  • Identify and pilot earned revenue opportunities through mission-aligned activities (convenings, tuition-based programming, etc.).

Regularly represent Philanthropy Ohio in Northeast Ohio

  • This position will be based in Northeast Ohio and the Director will be responsible for representing Philanthropy Ohio at philanthropic and community gatherings in the area. Although based in Northeast Ohio, this Director will be expected to travel to Columbus and to other member sites throughout the state regularly.

Qualifications

  • Deep familiarity with the philanthropic sector; experience in a foundation or nonprofit organization required.
  • Awareness of current trends, topics and resources in the philanthropic sector and on the critical issues that many foundations address (i.e. housing, health, democracy, education).
  • Strong relationship skills with an emphasis on achieving organizational goals through connections, networking and engagement.
  • Familiarity and experience within the philanthropy ecosystem of Northeast Ohio.
  • Proficient in facilitating groups, delivering programs and convening networks with a shared purpose.
  • Engaging, inclusive and welcoming delivery style that encourages members to fully participate and work toward goals together.
  • Comfort in initiating conversations, exploring partnerships and finding common ground.
  • Resourceful in researching and identifying appropriate prospects and navigating funding conversations and processes.
  • Use time and resources well, displaying ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities.
  • Attention to detail, ability to produce high-quality work products.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Approach responsibilities creatively with the goal of continuous improvement.
