It was the consensus of the Philanthropy Ohio Board to oppose the passage of Issue 1. Of equal importance was the consensus of the Board that the members of Philanthropy Ohio be given the appropriate tools and information so that they and their community partners can make an informed decision on August 8.

Access to justice, and access to a lawyer in particular, is universally good for our communities. Many funders in Ohio see the value in civil legal services as well. In fact, 43 Philanthropy Ohio members gave to legal aid in 2020, a remarkable show of support.

The Ohio Department of Education presented data on how Student Wellness and Success dollars was used toward mental health and in-school health programming. We also heard from the Ohio Department of Health about their health priorities, COVID-19 vaccinations and how the philanthropic sector can be a partner.

Leading and supporting philanthropic work to center racial equity, we bring training, tools, inspiration and conversations to our members, holding space for peer sharing and cohort learning and expanding to include other marginalized identities and issues.
