Thousands of women are engaged in current-day philanthropy through Women’s Funds, often organized within community foundations and sometimes as separate organizations. Many share a common focus and goal of empowering the lives of women and girls, often with a focus on those whose voices are unheard and whose lives lack opportunities.
View and download resources from the February Health Initiative Meeting, which provided an overview of the state’s budget as it relates to investments in the health and wellness of Ohioans. The Ohio Department of Education presented data on how Student Wellness and Success dollars was used toward mental health and in-school health programming. Access to justice, and access to a lawyer in particular, is universally good for our communities. Many funders in Ohio see the value in civil legal services as well. In fact, 43 Philanthropy Ohio members gave to legal aid in 2020, a remarkable show of support.

Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are vital components of a just society, and affirmative action measures are necessary to address the systemic barriers that have historically disadvantaged marginalized groups. I encourage all our members to engage in constructive dialogue, educate others about the importance of affirmative action and advocate for policies that promote equity and inclusivity.
At the August Education Initiative meeting, the State Board of Education President and the Interim State Superintendent shared the state’s priorities and strategies to address academic recovery and promote student success. Leading and supporting philanthropic work to center racial equity, we bring training, tools, inspiration and conversations to our members, holding space for peer sharing and cohort learning and expanding to include other marginalized identities and issues.

When you join a committee, connect with a peer group or participate in a policy initiative, not only are you giving back to the sector, but you’re also gaining valuable skills and relationships.
