View and download resources from the February Health Initiative Meeting, which provided an overview of the state’s budget as it relates to investments in the health and wellness of Ohioans. The Ohio Department of Education presented data on how Student Wellness and Success dollars was used toward mental health and in-school health programming. Health Policy Institute of Ohio staff presented their Eliminating Racial Disparities in Infant Mortality report. We also heard from the Ohio Department of Health about their health priorities, COVID-19 vaccinations and how the philanthropic sector can be a partner.
Policy Journal is published monthly for members of Philanthropy Ohio. It brings you all the news you need to know about state education, health and housing policy as well as policies impacting the philanthropic sector and our democracy.
This past February, Resilia and Philanthropy Ohio held a learning conversation on the capacity-building landscape of Ohio nonprofits with key funders in the state and members of Philanthropy Ohio. The discussion was thought-provoking and rich, with a key takeaway: both funders and nonprofits need support in building their own capacity to engage in trust-based work.
Under the guidance of our Public Policy Committee, Philanthropy Ohio undertakes policywork in the key impact areas of education, health, housing, tax reform and promoting charitable giving. The Philanthropy Ohio Legislative Agenda details this work.
At the September meeting, the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio shared a report on the growing gap between wages and rising rent across the state and their proposal to invest Ohio’s American Rescue Plan Act Funds in affordable housing, particularly for the state's most vulnerable residents. The program recording shares how funders can support housing stability policies during this fall’s lame duck session and the upcoming legislative session.
